Hypnotherapy
How does hypnotherapy work?
So how does hypnotherapy work? It is not like you see on tv or the movies. It is a process including the mind, both conscious and subconscious, where a skilled hypnotherapist guides you into a place of relaxation so that you accept suggestions that will support the subconscious and conscious mind to have the same message.
For example, a 4-year-old child is told by her father that she will never be beautiful, and she believes him. Fast forward 13 years, her boyfriend tells her she is beautiful. Does she believe him? No, she does not. The conscious mind is triggered by the comment and searches the subconscious mind for verification. When she receives the message that it is not true, she does not believe the boyfriend. The girl may not even know why she does not believe the boyfriend as she may not remember the memory. In hypnotherapy the suggestion of the girl being beautiful can be suggested and the memory if remembered in hypnosis will be able to be dealt with.
Hypnotherapy is more than relaxation
Relaxation is the stepping stone in the hypnotic process that allows the hypnotherapist to facilitate advanced work such as age regression or anesthesia.
Hypnotherapy is a cooperative partnership.
Can everyone be hypnotized?
This is widely debated in many hypnotic circles. 95% of people can be hypnotized to the level the client will allow. In a hypnotherapy session, there are tests that the therapist will do that will demonstrate how deeply in trance you are. Once compliance and tests are complete then therapy can be started.
Do I give permission to be hypnotized?
A good hypnotist will always ask permission to hypnotize the client and will always put in at the end of the session that no one can hypnotize the client without their permission including the hypnotist.
Will I tell secrets or do things against my will?
You would not do anything in hypnosis that you would not normally do in normal state when working with a Clinical Hypnotherapist.
Will I be controlled?
Even in hypnosis, one always has the option to execute their own will which means one will not do things that are against their moral fiber.
Hypnotherapy for Anxiety
Anxiety today is at an all time high. Some might even say we are living in the age of anxiety. Stress in the workplace has us burning the candle at both ends. Add a relationship and children into this mix and some people may just feel lost in the shuffle. A perfect storm for anxiety.
Ignoring anxiety is not the answer. Oftentimes we think it will disappear and often it does but when it does not, getting some support is good thing.
When we feel stressed, we go into the fight, flight, or freeze response. If we keep going into that response, we simply feel stressed a lot of the time. Over time our level of normal decreases and as our mind is so good at adapting to how things are, we accept the feeling as normal. It is like we have hypnotized ourselves into a state of anxiety or fear.
So how does one deal with anxiety before it becomes unmanageable?
- Breathing in mindful breaths can help. Three deep breaths in through you nose and out through your mouth when you wake up in the morning is key to starting your day off with great energy. Â Throughout the day, breathe in 3 deep breaths so that you keep the level of calmness.
- Create a Gratitude Journal. Write 5 things in your journal every day for what you are grateful for and actually look at those things you wrote. Connect the words and connect with the emotions.
- Talk with a professional about your concerns. There are many mental health care professionals that can support with concerns.
- Hypnotherapy can help. Hypnotherapy will first help the mind and body to relax, to get out of the state of anxiety and fear that one has become accustomed to. The next step is to stop the anxiety from even starting in the first place. This is done with several advanced techniques that all allow the release of the emotion of events in our past that have not yet been solved.
Dealing with anxiety by getting tools to deal with it is the key to solving it. You do not have to face anxiety alone and it is not a sign of weakness if you ask for help. It is a responsible choice.
