As of April 1, 2019, ICBC has implemented changes in the available healthcare for their customers involved in a motor vehicle accident. If you have been involved in an accident, all you need is a ICBC claim number to qualify for chiropractic treatment at Newleaf Total Wellness Centre. It is not necessary to have a medical referral to be approved for treatment.

From the date of the motor vehicle accident, patients can be eligible for up to 25 chiropractic treatments within a period of 12 weeks. There is no patient user fees for chiropractic treatment, which allows for immediate treatment with no out-of-pocket expense for the patient.

Individuals involved in a motor vehicle accident can experience whiplash and headaches, as well as neck, back and extremity pain. It has been well-documented that chiropractic treatment can help with the above noted soft tissue injuries.

Upon an initial assessment, a chiropractor will assess the patient involved in the accident and determine the appropriate treatment plan, in accordance with the standards of the College of Chiropractors of British Columbia.

Patients can also expect to be educated on the mechanism of injury and the factors responsible for the symptoms, the length of time that the symptoms will last and usual course of recovery, when a return to a patient’s occupation is appropriate and self-management strategies for the symptoms.

In some cases, the chiropractor may recommend an additional therapy to the patient that will compliment their treatment, such as acupuncture, massage therapy, physiotherapy or active rehabilitation with an accredited kinesiologist. At Newleaf Total Wellness Centre, all of these therapies are readily available, which allows for continuity of care for the patient.

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident and want to schedule an initial assessment with a chiropractor, or if you have any questions related to the treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic.

Yours in health, Dr. Jacob Stetz
